Our Story

Artemis Music Academy is the brainchild of Founder JoAnna Farrer, a Juilliard-trained violinist/fiddle player and performance preparation expert with over 20 years of teaching experience, and Executive Director Darryl Kubian, a composer, A/V engineer, violinist, and thereminist, who has been teaching for more than 40 years.

JoAnna Farrer's 30-year career as a violinist and fiddle player has spanned several continents, including performances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Berlin Philharmonie, and with orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, Goteborgs Symfoniker, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. She is the Concertmaster of the Savannah Philharmonic, and a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and is the founder of the Artemis Arts Concert Series.  She has a wide variety of chamber music experience including performances with Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Pinchas Zukerman, Emanuel Ax, and Itzhak Perlman.

Her passion for teaching began early in her career, while a student at Juilliard, and she has led workshops and chamber music intensives in Germany, Greece, Canada, the Philippines, and throughout the U.S. Her private students have been accepted to prestigious summer music programs and been recipients of national honors' awards.

She is an alumna of the Perlman Music Program, and participated in the National Arts Centre Young Artist Programme as a student of Pinchas Zukerman. She completed her Master's Degree at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Glenn Dicterow, former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic.

Executive Director Darryl Kubian is an accomplished composer, thereminist, violinist, teacher, and audio/video engineer, whose works have been commissioned and performed by orchestras throughout North America.  Darryl's fluid style has been featured in his extensive soundtrack work, including scores for the Wildlife Conservation Society, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, NHK, CBS, and others. His symphonic works have been commissioned and performed by orchestras including the New Jersey Symphony and Omaha Symphony.

Darryl's AV production company, IndigoFox Media, has produced on-location and in-studio works for numerous ensembles, including the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Parlance Chamber Concerts, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, National Geographic, and more.  As a thereminist, Darryl has performed with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony.

As a teacher, Darryl has led workshops in composition, violin performance, A/V engineering, and theremin in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and he has taught privately for 40 years. A graduate of Rutgers, his teachers have included Charles Wuorinen, Philip Corner, Hiroko Yajima, Benjamin Hudson, and Arnold Steinhard.

Our Process

We believe that making music is one of the most creative, important, and joyful things we can do in life. It allows us to express ourselves beyond words through our instrument or compositions, and it opens the door to a lifetime of collaborations with other artists.

Having studied and performed with some of the best musicians in the world (including Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Glenn Dicterow, Arnold Steinhard, and more) we are passionate about helping people reach their highest potential. Whether you're an adult student excited about learning to play or compose, a musician looking to improve your technique or conquer stage fright, or a parent looking to help your child move to the next level in their abilities (or begin their musical journey with a strong foundation!), we are here to help.

Send us a message, and let's get to work.
